Mortmain's game mechanics are built on the System Reference Document 5.1, published by Wizards of the Coast LLC and made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Licence (CC-BY-4.0). The full licence text is at creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode.
This work includes material taken from the System Reference Document 5.1 ("SRD 5.1") by Wizards of the Coast LLC, available at https://dnd.wizards.com/resources/systems-reference-document. What that covers: ability scores, the d20 check, advantage and disadvantage, hit dice, saving throws, armour class, damage types, conditions, the exhaustion track, the twelve base classes and their SRD subclasses, the spell mechanics, the monster stat blocks marked as SRD, and the equipment properties.
What it does not cover, and what is ours: the world, its history, its factions and their names, the economy and every number in it, the territory and settlement systems, the member classes, the naval layer, the offline layer, the quests, the item and creature entries marked as original, and every word of the fiction.
Wizards of the Coast has not endorsed this and is not associated with it. Attribution is not sponsorship, and the licence does not imply either.
Some rules are ours and deliberately differ from the SRD. Where Mortmain and the SRD disagree, Mortmain is what the game runs. Resurrection belongs to two classes here rather than five; prices are converted into a copper economy rather than imported; some content the SRD does not have exists anyway. Anything original is ours and is marked as such in our own data.
What you write in the game is yours. Character names, guild names, shop signs, messages and anything else you type stays your own. We need permission to display it inside the game and to keep the backups that running a game requires, and that is the extent of it.
We do not sell your writing, train anything on it, or license it to anybody.
What you build is not property in the legal sense. A keep, a guild, a stockpile and a level 20 character are game state. They can be taken by other players inside the rules, and they do not survive the game itself. Nothing in Mortmain converts to money and nothing leaves the world.
This wiki is ours and it is here to be read. Quote it, screenshot it, link it, build a guide off it. Do not republish it wholesale as your own.
The bot and the server are ours and are not open source. If any component we ship is under a licence that requires us to say so, it is listed here, and this section is where that list will live.
